IICN - International Institute of Christian Nursing

History

History of the Institute – Catching the Vision

In the spring of 2004, a group of nurse leaders met to discuss how NCFI could increase the voice of Christian nursing within the profession. The initial idea was to establish a focus on scholarship that would be seen as a credible resource, integrating faith and science. Several content related committees were created including: moral leadership, spiritual care, ethics, culture, and church-theology. The initial work on a conceptual framework for an Institute of Christian Nursing was begun with the vision: To impact, influence, and shape the future of nursing for Christ

At the 2004 NCFI Congress in Korea, Dr. Barbara White presented this vision for the international members to consider. The presentation created a great deal of interest and many agreed that establishing a scholarship arm of NCFI was a worthy endeavor. Although interest continued, there were other priorities for NCFI over the next few years. However, those interested in beginning this work also made a commitment to pray, follow God’s timing, and obediently follow His lead.

At the 2012 NCFI Congress in Chile the Executive Board revisited the idea of the Institute and agreed to make it a reality.  Several work groups were established as part of the Institute, including the Spiritual Care and Leadership committees that were already part of NCFI. We covet your prayers as many Christian nurses are volunteering their time and expertise to make the Institute a strong entity for Christian nursing around the world.
